Week Two of Storytelling

Posted by Everyman Playhouse on 10th Aug 2010 at 15:27 | 0 comments

I arrived, last Thursday, in the Playhouse’s Redgrave Room to find a wiry haired woman bearing a rat’s head on a stick and clad forebodingly in a dark dress. But not to worry, I told myself, as this was just our storyteller, Eithne Browne in full costume ready to regale children with the tale of Dick Whittington and his Cat.

Our storyteller seemed to have misplaced her all important book as she fumbled about in her handbag, pulling out various miscellany in the process. The children, of course, found the prospect of carrying a spade and Hawaiian garland amongst other objects highly amusing.

The much loved tale played before our eyes as Eithne put on a variety of voices and faces, making for a spellbinding tale. The children also had their role to play as designated ‘squeakers’ for the London rats. But the storytelling didn’t end there, oh no, we were treated to a second tale of our choice where, again, Eithne brought the words to life.

This Thursday will see Cathy Roberts tell us about a certain princess who had the misfortune of losing a glass slipper.

Storytelling is on every Thursday at 1.30 and 4pm in the Playhouse’s Redgrave Room until Thursday 26 August. There are 30 places per story and all children must be accompanied by an adult. Call our Box Office on 0151 709 4776 to book free places.
