FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. My students have very little experience of attending the theatre but I would like to start bringing them along. Any advice on how to introduce them?
We offer 'Appetizer Afternoons'. These are a great way for young people to first experience the theatre. We also offer a range of activities to compliment the work on the stage. These can be differentiated to cater for all levels and abilities and help students to gain a deeper insight into what they have seen, as well as hopefully further curiosity and interest in theatre. These are all featured in more detail in the 'Schools and Colleges' section.
2. I am looking for a good ‘value for money’ educational experience to accompany our forthcoming theatre visit. Can you suggest anything?
We run a Page to Stage event with all of our in house productions. This gives students an insight into how the text has been taken from page to stage and usually takes place before a matinee, from 10.30am to 12pm. At £2 per head, it is great value for money for this enriching and memorable experience.
We also offer Afterwords - a FREE post show discussion with our productions, dates of which can be found here.
3. I am studying at a local university. What can you offer me?
We have annual Welcome Events for students. You can come to the theatre, meet the professionals and learn about the ways that you can access our work. We also have strong partnerships with the city's universities and strive to support the creative work that takes place across the sector in whatever ways we can.
4. I need hands on experience. What is available?
We offer vocational support through a range of activities. For Creative Media Diplomas we offer Q'work - this is an intensive programme led by professionals in our theatres. We can also offer bespoke tours/workshops to enrich the learning of CMD students. For those seeking work experience, Q'work is a great alternative as we are not able to offer intensive work experience at present. For more info about Q'work, see Ed+.
We also have a Just the Job DVD and rescource pack, with detailed information about job roles in theatre. This includes interviews, demonstrations and production extracts to give students a rounded understanding of individual roles and how they work as part of a larger organisation.
5. What is a partnership and how can I get involved?
There are two levels of partnership available – Normal and Unique.
Normal Partnerships are free. Normal partner schools are required to bring groups to the theatre, attend Drama Teacher’s Forums and support the theatres where possible. In return, they receive specially priced tickets, complimentary tickets for selected performances, support from the theatres and a range of other benefits. For information about Unique Partners, please visit the Unique Partner section of the website.
6. I am a teacher and would like to find out about training opportunities. Are there any coming up?
At the moment, there are no scheduled INSET activities. However, keep an eye on the ‘Teachers’ section of the website for updates as we regularly have opportunities for teachers.
Alternatively you can call our Education Manager, Emma Smith, who would be more than happy to discuss your needs.
