30th July 2010
Thursday 29 July saw the beginning of the Playhouse’s summer of free storytelling due to take place every week at 1.30pm and 4pm in the Playhouse’s Redgrave Room until the end of August.
Prior to settling down to listen to the tale of Sleeping Beauty, Eithne Browne, in regal splendour, amused and entertained children with some party games, as they waited for everyone to arrive.
Then, when ready, children settled themselves down on Sleeping Beauty’s bed under the gauzy fabric of her bedroom to listen as the magical world came to life.
Children listened as the wicked twelfth fairy descended, uninvited, into the tale; and watched as the various residents of the enchanted castle fell, unexpectedly, into a long sleep.
Eithne’s enthusiasm continued after the tale ended as she asked children for their thoughts and what they would call the good fairy and the bad fairy.
For the second week, Eithne donned a new costume for the tale of Dick Whittington and his Cat.
Each week, until 26 August, children will be treated to a surprise story from storyteller Cathy Roberts.
Face painting will also be available every Thursday afternoon in the Playhouse foyer.
