Today is the first day of rehearsals for Canary, our forthcoming world première by Jonathan Harvey which opens at the Playhouse on 23 April.

Laced with magical touches and pitch black humour, Canary is an unflinching story about family, honesty, and forbidden love spanning four decades. This co-production between Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse, English Touring Theatre and Hampstead Theatre, premières at the Liverpool Playhouse from Friday 23 April to Saturday 15 May then opens in Hampstead prior to a UK tour.

Canary sees the return of stage and screen writer Jonathan Harvey to the Playhouse where he staged his first play, The Cherry Blossom Tree, 23 years ago. BAFTA Award-winning director Hettie Macdonald is reunited with Jonathan, having directed both the original stage and film versions of his award-winning play Beautiful Thing. The ensemble cast Includes Paula Wilcox, Sean Gallagher, Philip McGinley, Kevin Trainor, Hugh Ross, Jodie McNee, Ben Allen and Ryan Sampson.
