Kim Cattrall will return to the role of Cleopatra in the Liverpool Playhouse production of Antony & Cleopatra at Chichester Festival Theatre this autumn.

The Janet Suzman-directed production will feature Michael Pennington as Antony while many of the original cast will return to the Shakespearean tragedy which will be performed at Chichester Festival Theatre from September 7-29.

Kim Cattrall was born in Mossley Hill, Liverpool, before her family emigrated to Canada when she was three months old. She returned to Britain later to study at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA). She received rave reviews for her role of Amanda in Sir Richard Eyre’s West End play of Noel Coward’s comedy Private Lives and will reprise the role again on Broadway in November.

Michael Pennington is a leading Shakespearean actor whose credits include extensive work with the RSC, as well as his own English Shakespeare Company. His acting credits include The Master Builder, The Iron Lady, Judgement Day and Love is My Sin.

Janet Suzman’s distinguished career as an actor and director includes her acclaimed performance in Antony and Cleopatra, as well as roles in Hedda Gabler and Dream of the Dog. Directing credits include the award-winning productions of the Johannesburg Othello, The Free State and Death of a Salesman.

Everyman and Playhouse Executive Director Deborah Aydon said: “We are thrilled that Antony & Cleopatra will have another lease of life, with Kim returning to the role of the Egyptian queen in Janet’s extraordinary production.

“With The Ladykillers in the West End and Jonathan Pryce in The Caretaker about to set off for Australia and the USA, this will be our third high-profile opportunity this year to showcase Liverpool’s theatre outside the city.

“It’s also a great pleasure to be working with Chichester again, after our collaboration on 2010’s Ragged Trousered Philanthropists proved such a success in both cities."
