Mark White

At the age of 4 years, Mark was dragged off to tap classes with his older sister in the hope of becoming a "Television Topper". Apparently he proved to be a natural hoofer and was condemned to 12 years of dancing competitions, and classes in jazz, ballet, tap, national dance, and singing. This wasn't always something to shout about as a pupil at a North London Comprehensive! Things took a turn for the better when Mark was given time off school to appear in ITV's Bruce Forsyth Christmas Special and in panto at London Palladium with Jimmy Tarbuck and Arthur Askey. A couple of similar engagements the following year ensured the lads at school didn't think too badly of the "tippy-tappying" after all!

Of course, all this time off school took it's toll, and at 16 years of age, Mark left school with no qualifications, and saw no other option than to become a dancer, and summer seasons, pantomimes, theatre and club tours, trade shows and TV works ensued, including several Royal Variety Performances, appearances in The Goodies, Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em, and a couple of years in a nightclub in Majorca.

The first time anyone accepted that Mark could not only sing and dance on stage, but also talk, was when he was cast as Mike in A Chorus Line at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. A life in musical theatre followed. Favourites include Will Parker in Oklahoma!, Junior in On Your Toes, Thenardier in Les Miserables - all at the Palace Theatre in London's West End. Mark also played Elijah in Moby Dick (Piccadilly Theatre), Uncle Ernie in Tommy (UK Tour), Tom Jenkins in Scrooge (UK Tour), Jake Blues in The Official Tribute To The Blues Brothers (Comedy Theatre), Dentist in Little Shop Of Horrors (Watermill, Newbury), and Petal in Boy George's Taboo (The Venue, Leicester Square).

Whilst playing Tulsa in Gypsy at Sheffield Crucible, Mark was asked if he'd ever thought of doing "straight acting". As a result, he was cast as the best fed Bob Cratchit ever seen in A Christmas Carol. Other theatre roles include Ellis Parker in Blues for Mr Charlie, Mitch in People Who Don't Do Dinner Parties, Johnny in Frankie And Johnny In The Clair De Lune, Alfred Doolittle in Pygmalion, Capulet in Romeo & Juliet, The Captain in Woyzeck, Peter in A Taste Of Honey, Frosch in Die Fledermaus, and a season at Oxford Playhouse.

Film work includes Saxon, The Tell Tale Heart, The Walberswick Detectives, The Master Of Ballantrae.
Television includes the role of Terry Conan in the critically acclaimed BBC drama Residents, Second Thoughts, The Bill, EastEnders, Noah's Ark, Law & Order UK, Dangerfield, and Bellman, Box And The Vandal.
When Mark isn't acting, he pays the bills working as a theatre technician and has been Deputy Master Carpenter at the Victoria Palace Theatre, Deputy Head of Stage at the Dominion Theatre, Head Flyman at London Palladium, and has recently worked as Flyman and Revolve Operator on the National Theatre's acclaimed production of Warhorse at the New London Theatre.

Mark has two children, lives in North London with his partner Maddy, and is a lifelong Gooner.
