There are lots of questions that we think you, your parents, guardians or teachers might have about YEP and we’ve tried to answer them all here. But if there’s still something you want to know, then please email YEP@everymanplayhouse.com
1. What is YEP?
YEP is an exciting new initiative developed by the theatres to enable more Young people to take part in a wide range of practical sessions involving different aspects of theatre.
2. What can I do in YEP?
There are currently several different activity strands to YEP.
Our Young Actors strand gives you the opportunity to get involved in theatre productions and develop your acting skills via regular weekly sessions during term time.
The Satellite workshops offer young people the opportunity to attend workshops to develop their skills which take place at regular intervals throughout the year. Satellite members will also be given the opportunity to decide on and programme workshops that they are interested in.
The Young Writers programme introduces young people aged 16 to 25 to playwriting through an extensive workshop process which covers the fundamentals of playwriting through each stage up to the development of writing a full length play. This is a year long programme which requires an application process.
Our Young Technicians programme gives young people the opportunity to learn and develop skills in technical theatre (sound and lighting). Young Technicians will work on YEP Young Actors shows as well as assisting on other events and performances within and outside of the Theatres.
Our Young Communicators work throughout the year with the Everyman and Playhouses communications team to market and promote YEP shows. The also get to assist with the marketing of our main house shows.
YEP also works in communities across Merseyside via a Community Engagement Residency programme run by YEP directors and staff to deliver workshops and projects that ensure access for all.
3. How old do I have to be (or not to be) to be in YEP?
The age range to become a member of YEP is 11-25. However, some strands have higher age limits than others so please check the activity strand that you are interested in for further information.
4. Does it cost to join YEP, do you have to pay?
There is no cost to join YEP and you can get access to our £5 ticket deal as well as regular updates on opportunities and YEP shows.
The theatre heavily subsidises all of YEP programmes however, there are some activities that you do have to pay for. Young Actors term time fees are £40 per term. Satellite workshops usually will cost about £4 per session or around £10 for a short weekend workshop.
A limited number of bursary places are available for Young Actors and Satellite workshops. Please contact Viv for more information vocallaghan@everymanplayhouse.com
